How to encourage employees to return to the office? Office arrangement key to work-life balance

The isolation forced by the pandemic and the need for employers and employees to adjust to new circumstances of work and daily functioning have been quite a challenge, but they have shown that the existing work model can and even must undergo a facelift.

Working in a home office or hybrid model suits many employees, but employers are already bracing for a return to stationary work. How do you find a balance between the two jobs so that you can continue to offer attractive jobs?

From the official Voice of the European workforce survey conducted by Deloitte, we can learn that as many as 80% of European respondents admit to having experienced at least one change in working conditions in recent months. This was, of course, a shift from working in an office to a remote working model. John Guziak, Deloitte Partner, notes that according to the report, 62% of employees in Europe and 57% in Poland expect to be able to work remotely more often after the pandemic. It turns out, then, that employees aren’t necessarily in a hurry to start moving from home to the office again and give up the possibility of more frequent trips out of town. Employers therefore need to offer them an attractive new work model that incorporates work-life balance.

Safe and stress-free return to the office

Although in Poland remote work is not as popular as in Western European countries (according to the Central Statistical Office, across the economy the use of such a work model is highest in units employing more than 49 people), it is already apparent that the labor market is forcing employers to be flexible.

Office refresh - attractive work space

Work in the office is changing its character and will focus on what brings employees the most value - collaboration within and between teams. To further support team integration, we have launched an integration budget for each team. Our employees can count on special discounts at the campus cafeteria and restaurant, further encouraging them to spend time together

On the one hand, employees want to return to the office to interact directly with co-workers and clients, but on the other hand, they may find it difficult. The change in the nature of work will require employers to focus more on the needs of the people they hire – and by extension, the office space.

In the post-pandemic era, the workplace should be a place associated with safety, emanating positive energy that drives people to action. Such an atmosphere can be created by refreshing the office: adding elements of space branding or signage. Attractive wall graphics are one of our most requested services.

Refreshing the office after a pandemic is therefore a good way to encourage employees to return to stationary work.

In a space that someone has taken care of, it’s easier to feel taken care of. At Space Wizard, we recommend investing in walls that can become a vehicle for positive messages, inspirational slogans or simply beautiful graphics created from photographs or a personalized design we create for your business.

Proper office arrangement and providing a friendly atmosphere will encourage employees to return to stationary work after the pandemic period.

Attractive office space branding is an element of employer branding that is worth taking care of in order to title yourself a modern employer.

6 feet office, or distances good for health

Even in times of loosened restrictions, it is important to ensure the safety of employees. Our proven solution is to physically mark out safe distances between employees in the office space. Cushman & Wakefield has developed a “6 feet office” system, which we implemented in its Warsaw headquarters – its secret is functional simplicity.

With proper signage on the walls and floor of the office space, employees won’t worry about whether they’re keeping the right distances between each other, and the signage and wayfinding system will make it easier for them to move around the office.

Spatial signage in the office is an important part of hygiene in a (post)pandemic reality.

The “6 feet office” solution is a simple and functional way to have a secure office.

Take care of arranging or refreshing your office before employees return from home office mode. It will feel like an optimistic start! A new, attractive office space will make work more pleasant. By the way, every employee will feel appreciated. This is the right approach to space and employer branding activities!

Good atmosphere and green office

The stress level can be lowered by developing the right attitude of the board and management to the resumed office work: working out a new routine with employees (e.g., more frequent breaks), wisely managing a dispersed team, setting clear operating rules, making sure to build healthy relationships within the team, and setting clear expectations. All these elements will ensure a healthy atmosphere – but plants can help maintain it.

A green office is one in which plants play an important design role. But it’s not just about aesthetics. In a space filled with plants-whether arranged in beautiful compositions on the floor or arranged in “green partitions”-it is simply better to stay, and therefore also to work. Such solutions also create a substitute of home atmosphere in the office.

Hybrid and hot desk model. For a balance between work and home

In large companies, the shift to a hybrid model, i.e. working partly from home and partly stationary, is already the norm. During the pandemic, it proved possible to work this way, and employees praised the increased productivity. The return to the pre-pandemic mode may come as a shock to many employees, and will motivate many to change jobs.

– After many months of working from home, remote work has become the status quo. For employees, returning to their offices is a violation of a familiar situation, and employers must come to terms with the initial drop in efficiency caused by the change. – explains for the Marketing and Business portal, Aleksandra Witoszek-Kubicka, a research and teaching associate specializing in organizational behavior.

Working partly from home and partly from the office is a healthy compromise that more and more companies are opting for. It gives employees a sense of greater control over their own time, and gives managers contact with their team on certain live days. Photo Unsplash
