Offices once and today. How has the approach to office building interior design changed?

In recent years we can observe many new trends in office space design. Contributing to this have been a number of studies on work efficiency, the changing needs of employees, a greater awareness among owners of the need to build up the image of their companies, and new work models such as hybrid work or home office.

Open space

Open spaces often stimulate creativity and innovation. They foster rapid communication and exchange of ideas among team members. In modern office buildings, we can see that it is open-space interiors that are replacing the boxes and high-wall fenced-off workspaces that were so popular in the 1980s and 1990s. Managers are more likely to rely on group work, thus strengthening the bonds between employees on a daily basis, thus building a close-knit and effective team, and the office is becoming the place to be, where they solve problems together and work on new solutions in a relaxed atmosphere. An additional advantage of open offices is the possibility of use of natural light, which can have a positive effect on mood and productivity.

However, it is worth remembering that open space may not suit all work styles. Some employees prefer quieter, more isolated spaces, so it is important to find a balance between open areas and areas that provide privacy to accommodate different employee preferences. A practical solution is to use modular furniture, which makes spaces multifunctional and makes it even easier to reconfigure workstations and accommodate any number of people and their needs.

Space branding

Obecurrent greater emphasis is being placed not only on comfort, but also on aesthetics and more ambitious finishing projects, so thoughtful colors, designer furniture have found their way into modern designs. Personalized wall graphics, The correct implementation of brand identity and many other elements have an impact on building a positive corporate image. Owners are aware that the interiors of their premises are the business card that customers, future employees and competitors see. Spaces should be creative, consistent with brand branding and eye-catching.

An innovative approach to design distinguishes originality and individuality. The style of the interior corresponds to the character of the brand and the people who work there. Introduced in the interiors, graphics, wallpapers, murals illustrating values, brand missions referring to the services offered or employees’ interests contribute to the sense of belonging to the company, the desire to work and the presentation of the company as a professional business partner and a visually attractive work environment.

Shared space

Offices are not just furnished workstations. In recent years, great attention has been paid to common areas such as conference rooms, chillout areas, kitchens, focus rooms and relaxation corners.

Conference rooms are very often places where brainstorming takes place, so it’s worth ensuring that these places stimulate creativity and are conducive to holding long meetings in a larger group. Personalized graphics in energetic colors with motivational quotes help with this.

Relaxation corners are comfortable furniture, often hammocks or rocking chairs surrounded by plants. Such places are preferred by employees who like to relax in silence with a cup of their favorite coffee.

For those who prefer active recreation, chillout zones in the form of game talks equipped with foosball, a billiard table or a game console or similar integration-friendly attractions will be attractive.

Ecology and technological development

Big changes can also be seen in terms of the materials used in the projects. Today, the focus is on Use of environmentally friendly materials.

The same goes for other solutions such as using renewable energy, local sourcing, promoting healthy lifestyles and fostering well-being by arranging green spaces.

Being eco in today’s world is extremely important. Companies wishing to gain the interest of employees who place living with an eye on ecology and sustainability high on their value system should think about this as early as the office space design stage.

Recent years have strongly influenced the approach to office building interior design. Previously, space planning was limited by the furnishings of workstations. Most such interiors were characterized by simplicity and efficiency. Today, they are created with employees, their needs and comfort in mind. The standard in modern companies, where employers understand that the workplace is – not only a place where we work, but also exchange experiences and make friends.
