The future of remote working vs. office space needs: how to adapt to change

In the rapidly evolving world of business, remote work has become an integral part of many companies’ HR strategy. However, with employees becoming accustomed to time and space flexibility, office managers and other decision makers are now faced with the challenge of attracting them back to their offices. The hybrid work model is already so widespread that it’s rather difficult to talk about a return to the state of affairs of a few years ago, when remote work was a privilege or an option to choose a few days a month during which to perform one’s duties outside the office. However, more and more companies are making efforts to effectively adapt office space to the new needs of employees and yet encourage more frequent work from the office.

Analysis of employee needs

The first step is to understand what employees expect from the office when they return from working remotely or on those days when they work in the office. Surveys and meetings with the team can provide valuable insights into preferred work zones, privacy needs, and expectations for ways to communicate and interact in the office.

Differentiated work zones

It’s worth designing the office to provide a variety of zones that suit different work styles and employee preferences. From quiet areas for concentrated work to open spaces for creative collaborations, flexibility is the key here.

Office acoustics

Acoustics can be a key factor in workplace efficiency. Introducing sound-absorbing materials and quiet zones can help ensure adequate acoustic comfort for employees, especially with increased online meetings.

Office greenery means better well-being

The introduction of live plants not only adds to the aesthetics, but also has a positive impact on the well-being and productivity of employees. Plants purify the air, reducing stress and increasing creativity. Introducing plants into the office can therefore be a step toward creating a more welcoming work space.

Personalizing the space

Customizing workspaces can help employees feel an emotional connection to the office. Allow employees to customize their workstations according to their own needs and preferences, encouraging them to express their personalities through decorations and small improvements. Use space branding and wayfinding to create a cohesive, inspiring, yet functional office space. Signage and the appropriate use of colors and materials will help reinforce a company’s identity while improving communication.

Remote work has changed the way we view traditional offices. However, by intelligently adapting office space to meet the new needs of employees and using office acoustics, office greenery and space branding solutions, we can create an attractive workplace that not only draws employees back to the office, but also inspires them to be even more successful.
