Wayfinding and space branding, and brand visual identity, or why consistency is important

When creating a space signage system, we should be guided not only by functionality, but also by the visual identity of the company. Especially in commercial facilities, institutions and public buildings, this will be of great importance. Here are some reasons why consistency plays a key role:

Recognition

By creating a visual brand identity, a company builds its recognition. If signs, directional signs, message boards and other wayfinding elements are consistent with the company’s logo, colors and overall style, users will more easily identify the facility where they are located.

Consistency

The signage system must have continuity. From the entrance we guide the customer to his destination. Consistency allows you to quickly locate the next clues, and this increases the comfort and confidence of the person who is on the premises for the first time.

Professionalism

Signage consistent with the corporate identity helps create an impression of professionalism and attention to detail, which is important for the company’s image. We want customers coming to the office to feel, from the first impression, that the company pays attention to their needs.

Uniqueness

Well-designed space branding that relates to a company’s character and corporate identity is a great way to effectively stand out from the competition. Creative interiors, aesthetically pleasing decor and functional communication solutions attract attention, creating a positive impression among both customers and future employees of the company.

Functionality

When wayfinding elements are consistent with a company’s branding, employees are more likely to use them, which in turn makes it easier to efficiently navigate the company’s space. Unlike signage that contrasts with the interior style, they don’t tire the eyes or bring chaos to the workplace.

It is worth noting that consistency does not mean that all elements must be identical. They should be tailored to the specifics of wayfinding and fulfill their functions. While maintaining visual integrity so that users can easily understand the message. Therefore, to achieve the optimal balance between consistency and functionality, designers often work with corporate identity experts.

How to use company branding to design a signage system? Case study based on a project for Cloudflight

We always try to adapt our designs to a specific environment and its character. In the case of Cloudflight, we decided to take inspiration from the brand’s brandbook, taking into account its color scheme and typography.

We designed a set of pictograms and an interesting system of directional signage that not only fulfill their function, but also perfectly fit into the context of modern and innovative office design.

At designated nodal points, blue stripes were painted on the walls, which we used as a backdrop for information. The blue accents, in a color consistent with the brand’s visual identity, blended perfectly with the modern interior, while clearly and intuitively guiding employees around the office. With these treatments, the signage elements in the office became an organic part of the space, while emphasizing the brand’s character.

To mark the rooms, we used classic steel, double-sided plates with clear pictograms, mounted perpendicularly to the walls. They allow you to quickly identify their function and purpose. This solution is an excellent form of room identification, especially in long passageways. The steel semaphore signs with legible pictograms are aesthetically pleasing and visually matching to the interior, while their durability and elegant design fit perfectly into the whole concept of the project. The system is complemented by subtle stickers with pictograms and room names placed on solid doors.

Visual identity in space branding and wayfinding

When designing signage, respecting the company’s branding is very important. Consistency in the interior allows you to maintain aesthetics and order. A well-executed implementation directly affects the image of the films against the competition and its future customers.
