What will offices look like in 2024?

Nowadays, there is no single leading style or color scheme that tells what an interior should be. Designers of modern offices are guided by consistency with the character of the company, its branding and the purpose of specific rooms. However, there are trends in the approach to the design and organization of spaces that we can see in recent times. These are trends resulting from the new needs of employees and changing standards and work modes.

An office conducive to health

More and more people are paying attention to health and physical activity. They assume that since they spend most of the day in the workplace, the company should provide them with a comfortable environment. And they are right. Therefore, it makes sense to meet these needs when designing.

One such trend is office organization that encourages good habits by, for example, properly placing printers, coffee makers and water dispensers. In this way, employees are encouraged to get up from their workspace at least for a while and replenish their fluids.

Functional and comfortable office

Due to the increasing emergence of hybrid work systems, companies are giving up large spaces, but even small offices should feature a diverse plan, be ergonomic, functional and aesthetically pleasing. What do we have in mind? A modern office may be small, but it should have separate zones adapted to its functions.

In areas suitable for individual work, care should be taken to provide adjustable tables and chairs so that everyone can adjust them to their height. It is also important, to ensure the flow of daylight, for example, by placing them closer to the windows. Another important factor is to reduce noise. For this, partition walls or the use of suitable materials in the room to dampen sounds coming from both outside the building and those arising from the immediate environment can be helpful. If a room has a lot of people working in it, noisy machinery and there is no way to reduce noise, it is worthwhile to provide a separate quiet zone. In such soundproof rooms, employees will be able to de-stimulate themselves and concentrate on their most important tasks. It is crucial to ensure equally comfortable conditions that an employee would have if he or she worked from home, thus encouraging him or her to return to stationary work.

Green offices

As ecological awareness grows, so does the need for a close relationship with nature. Concern for the environment expressed in concrete actions is beneficial to a company’s image and is increasingly demanded by employees. The use of natural and environmentally safe materials, green solutions, energy-efficient lighting, saving paper, reducing plastic and minimizing non-recyclable waste – these are just a few elements that guide modern offices. Proximity to nature means not only recycling, but also the presence of a lot of plants. Greenery in the office has a positive effect on the well-being of employees, purifies the air and is a unique decoration. Among the increasingly popular solutions, we can see walls of greenery and other arrangements made of living vegetation.

Offices conducive to work

Another trend is the organization of collaborative zones, including open-plan offices, comfortable conference rooms and collaborative spaces that encourage integration. Rooms in which employees themselves took part in the organization and design are very popular. Wanting to show that they are important and part of the company’s identity, we often encourage clients to come up with themes and room names together with the team, and determine what elements should be included. Depending on the nature of the company and the average age of employees, these can be colorful interiors with personalized graphics, comfortable poufs and consoles, or more subdued and muted chill rooms.

How do you properly arrange an office space so that it fits in with the trends, yet serves for many years and is timeless? This is a challenge that designers often face. Following fashion gives the feeling of being modern, but it is worth reckoning with the fact that over time the trend will pass, and no one wants to do a general overhaul of the interior after a year. It’s worth choosing judiciously which elements will work for the long term and fit with the company’s branding, and focusing on functional directions that will help the company meet the needs of its employees and customers. Particularly at a time when employees have a choice between a hybrid and remote model, office spaces need to fully meet expectations in order to attract them to stationary work.
